Creatures of Great Variety
I started this project in graduate school when my instructor felt I needed to involve my family in my art making. I invited my youngest son to my drawing class where he spent a great deal of time collecting all the graphite and charcoal dust in the room and spent no time drawing with me. I wanted to do some kind of collaborative drawing with him but he was more interested in what everyone else was doing. What I ended up with was a collaborative project based on the drawings in his sketchbooks. I took a small drawing of a creature and did my interpretation of what he drew. Out of this grew a set of creatures—of great imagination and total fun. We had fun naming each and using them in my graduate exhibition.
