A flat hike to the coast
Hiking the Ozette Trail - a flat hike
In July I had the opportunity to hike the Ozette Trail on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State. The trail takes you from the edges of a coastal forest directly to the coast. You camp right up on the edge of the beach. The tidal action is quite dramatic going out and out until the ocean seems to disappear. That is the time to hike down the coast when you can get around all the fallen trees and huge rock outcrops that block the path in a few areas. The place was filled with bald eagles, sea lions (which were heard but rarely seen), and all kinds of strange things that washed up on shore.
